Because foster space is limited in our organization and in most others, GHS has developed an innovative program that allows animals to attend our adoption days while still living with their current owners. This program enables us to assist the general public in “rehoming” their animal without taking it to a shelter or relying on more traditional, and more risky ways of placing an animal (i.e. the newspaper, etc.).

The volunteers in our Placement Program have one goal, to try to find the best home possible for the animals in our program. This extends beyond our foster animals to the animals that we help through our Owner Sponsor program.

With this program, we are able to put our expertise to work for you and your pet. Over the years, GHS has placed thousands of animals into new, loving homes. We have the knowledge to help you maintain your pet’s piece of mind while still searching for a new home that will care for them.

There are a few things that we would like for you to know.

1) WE WANT HELP YOU KEEP YOUR ANIMAL – Many animals are given up because they have some sort of behavioral problem, be it housebreaking or litter box problems, or maybe unruliness or destructive behavior. Before we accept an animal into our program for Owner Sponsor, we will explore some options with you to try to solve your problems so you can keep your pet.

2) WE MUST OBEY THE LAW REGARDING FOUND ANIMALS – If you have just found a stray animal, you need to contact Gwinnett County Animal Control at 770-339-3200.

If you have been caring for a found animal, you may sponsor it through our program if you meet the following criteria:

3) PATENCE IS NECESSARY – If we can’t help you find a way to keep your pet, please understand that it can take a significant amount of time to place an animal. We do try our best to place animals as quickly as possible, but we will not compromise our judgement just for the sake of time. We know that you want what’s best for your pet, and so do we.

4) NOT ALL ANIMALS WILL BE ACCEPTED INTO THE OWNER SPONSOR PROGRAM – We evaluate every animal that comes into our program and will be as honest as we can be with you about the potential success of your pet in our program. We do, upon occasion, have to turn away some animals that can not handle an adoption day. If that happens, we will always try to present you with alternative solutions.

5) WE HAVE BASIC MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS THAT ALL PETS MUST MEET – It is necessary for all Owner Sponsor animals to be current on certain immunizations and tests. We are very concerned about the continued good health of your animal, as well as all the others that attend our adoption days. It’s necessary that all animals appear healthy and have the following medical records. If your animal does not meet these requirements, we can help you find a way to get these things done at a lower cost so your pet can be placed.

6) RESERVATIONS AT ADOPTION DAYS ARE NECESSARY – If you have an animal that you need some help with please contact us prior to bringing the pet to our adoptions. Space is sometimes limited, so we need to schedule all the animals that are attending on Saturdays.

   •   Does the animal have current and acceptable medical records, or do you need help with that?
